All about JEE Main Exam

Joint entrance examination (JEE Main) is an all India common engineering entrance examination which is conducted for admission in various engineering colleges and courses all over the country.

In JEE Main 2015, around 13 lakh students appeared for the Joint Entrance exam (Main). Out of these 13 lakh who appeared for the JEE Main only the top 1.5 lakh are eligible to appear for the Advanced JEE.

In 2012, CBSE announced this exam to be conducted in two parts-

Joint Entrance Exam – Main [JEE (main)]

And Joint Entrance Exam – Advanced [JEE (advanced)].

JEE main exam is for admission in Indian Institute of Information Technology, National Institute of Technology, Centrally funded Technical establishments (CFTIs) and taking part establishments and IIEST Shibpur.

Joint entrance exam (advanced) is for admission in Indian Institute of Technology and ISM Dhanbad.

The candidates who clear JEE main but are not amongst the top 1.5 lakh or they do not clear Joint Entrance Exam advance can seek admission to other engineering colleges such as Indian Institute of Information Technology, National Institute of Technology and other government and private engineering colleges.

The student who takes admission in Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) cannot appear for Joint entrance exam (JEE) exams next year.

The Central Board of Secondary Education’s (CBSE’s) ability to host the exam was questioned this year (2015) when they published the answer key.

The result was announced on 27th of April after which the cut off was reduced to 105 as compared to 115 last year.
